A Jewish doctor who treated a patient with Nazi tattoos says the pandemic has tested his compassion

Oh man so much respect for what you do/did, I would never have patience in a legal setting haha!

To be honest one of the big things I am concerned about right now (other than the massive mortality and morbidity facing everyone from covid 19) is the compassion fatigue that people will be dealing with/are dealing with, in your case. So many medical professionals are leaving practice in response to this epidemic, or are getting sick and passing away/ending up significantly disabled, which is going to further limit everyone’s access to care.

Personally, I was just angry the whole time I rotated through family medicine. I’ve learned that I have a limited tolerance for people with fixable problems who also have no sense of personal responsibility, and I’m considering other fields in which that pops up a bit less often only out of self preservation- I don’t want to burn out early if I can avoid it.

That’s definitely a moving target right now- we are allowed to have limits and I’m glad you were able to step away and set yours. Stay safe!
