The Jews Killed Jesus

It's relevant because contemporaries from around that time, who had no personal interest in encouraging the little cult that sprung up around the Jewish rabble rouser known as Jesus, were certain enough that such a person did exist that they reported it as fact to the Roman government. A government who did have an interest in making all this Jesus talk go away.

You don't have to believe in all the religious stuff or son of God talk. But it's widely accepted among historians that a Jewish person going by that name did exist around that time and did many of at least the non supernatural stuff that was reported. This person, being a Jew and causing trouble among the other Jews in the area, drew the ire of the Jewish leadership, and in turn, the Roman governor of the province. Seeking to quell possible revolt, the Romans had him executed at the behest of the Jewish leadership, who also didn't want a popular revolt to occur. These claims, again, are widely regarded as being as historically accurate as we're able to determine based off available data. If you do, or don't, want to believe in all the supernatural God stuff, that's your choice of course and a separate issue. But the days regarding the life and execution of Jesus is generally accepted as mostly true.
