Jimmy Carter: 'I would like the last Guinea worm to die before I do'

If you read any of his books, he's obviously a deeply spiritual man. His writings are absolutely brilliant, some of the most engrossing literature I've ever read. I have around seven of his books, all nothing less than enlightening. He does talk about his Christian faith often, yet it's clear he has an independent thought process and unrelenting urge to help those in need just as reported of Christ. He isn't the type of person to accept the teachings of a particular church over his researched knowledge of Christ and his true personality. Some of his books contain powerful questions regarding religion, many that would have most involved in a modern church labeled an apostate- ironic as the questions usually follow biblical reasoning.

Most Christians today seem to think much suffering is fine and lack of heavenly intervention means it's the way their God wants things. The new testament was about teaching others to intervene if they see suffering, after all that's supposed to be Satan's realm of influence. Allowing it to continue would only strengthen his grasp and promote his ideals. The bible clearly warns against believing in false prophets and anyone with a political agenda, however most Christians assume the first preacher they find knows Jesus and the bible better than they ever could. I'm not sure which side people are on.

TL;DR Carter is Christian and conservatives don't have a monopoly on religion. The very phrase "conservative" would probably be appalling to a character like Christ, since he fought to change the established evils of his day instead of preserve them. I'm really tired and dozing so I hope this is easy enough to read.
