Anyhow, I appreciate the benefits of a high-powered GPU. I own a 1080 myself. If you want life-like and realistic, get yourself a nice piece of 14/16nm FinFET silicon with your favourite chipmaker's design etched into it, and let 'er rip.

But what I think developers (and consumers) are starting to realize, is that something can be immersive and gorgeous, despite a lower polygon count. Yes, the Switch will feature a lowly Tegra chip from Nvidia, but the nice thing about "cartoony" graphics is that they're a hell of a lot easier to crunch.

The new Zelda iteration is not the first of it's kind in this regard, either. I think games like Transistor and the Trine Series set a very similar standard for their respective genres. Kingdoms of Amalur is another. Now, these don't necessarily have the same clout as a game like the new Zelda, but the point is, "AAA" developers need not always push the boundaries of graphical fidelity to create an aesthetic masterpiece.
