My mother did the same. My oldest sister wanted them done at probably 6 or 7, but she had to wait till 10 (and my other sister and I had to wait till then too). My mother had no inclination of having to take care of a little kid's freshly pierced ears.

Oldest sister ended up making her oldest daughter wait till 10 too ... though her younger daughter got them at about 3 years old, but that's because 1-- Her older sister had just gotten them done so she wanted them too and 2-- She'd just had to have her head shaved because she'd gotten lice from daycare, and was allergic to the medicated shampoo for it so it was her consolation prize for losing her long, thick and gorgeous, natural red and wavy hair.
