Joe Biden slips up in a speech; “poor kids are just as talented as white kids”

All these people are saying, well Trump says things much worse daily... Ok---- but still, I could not picture Trump saying anything like this in a thousand years... Trump may be "racist" in his policies, but nothing on the subject he's said publicly has ever been this bad--this awful gaffe which seems to assert that being white and poor are mutually exclusive in a rather direct manner. It is simply too outrageous to take literally, so we must give him a pass, yet it retains the outward appearance of some Freudian Slip letting out what Biden "really thinks" on race.

This reason for this discrepancy is unclear... maybe Trump is just exceptionally skilled at avoiding these sorts of gaffes in his public behavior. Yet you really would think Joe would have had developed these skills--the skill not to say "poor kids are just as talented as white kids" in front of a camera, to watch his speech, to not say these things which perhaps we think but do not say--during his decade long career in the senate but maybe not. Maybe this is part of why Trump is so successful, that he gives an illusion of being a "loose cannon" who tells it like it is and speaks of taboo while really having a public persona that is more calculated and deliberate than it appears.

In all likelihood Biden does not believe more strongly in an equivalence between being white and being rich (although that he at least harbors this notion seems obvious now) yet this doesn't make it any better. Trump always seems to stays consistent at the most basic level... He never betrays his "inside" thoughts, nor does he even give the appearance of doing so; the difference hardly matters before the public
