Joe has a lot of work ahead of him ...

And how Biden will have to do this while trump is going to be on the Twitter sidelines encouraging his supporters to attack and tear Joe down at every stumble... Joe was not my ideal candidate, but he is obviously the better option by far. I think that if we really want to see our country change and improve, we need to have an equally strong voter turnout in the 2022 midterms and 2024 elections.

Unless the senate is flipped and the dems have a strong majority, we can only do so much improvement.

Even so, the people that encouraged and supported Trump won't go away in 1 term. We need to remember the bullshit and craziness that we experienced these last 4 years and use these experiences to keep these hooligans out of office. We can not afford for them to see less voter turn out in 2022 and 2024 and think that it is a mandate on trumpism. We have to make voting a habit for all the first time voters this time around.

However, the most important thing that we need to do if Biden is elected is lead by example and show what responsible citizens and voters look like. As I said, Biden was not my ideal candidate. I fully expect him to make moves and mistakes that I do not agree with... and that is ok.

I recently re-read Animal Farm again. For as good and as influential of a book as it is, the forward is by far more important and impactful than the actual book. In the forward, Orwell describes how he had a difficult time publishing one of the most famous works of American literature. How could such an influential book have such a hard time getting published? The reason is simple. The very essence ofAnimal Farm was critical to Russia/USSR. The book was published during world war 2. Russia was our ally. Publishers did not feel comfortable "attacking" our ally, even though the criticism was 100% warranted.

We should remember this example when Biden makes mistakes (all presidents do). We need to be the first to call him out when he does. Otherwise, we might try to justify something that we would have been critical of trump doing. This leads to a slippery slope that ends in being a follower of a cult of personality, where the person you idolize will always have your support no matter what actions they take.

The biggest and most important thing that we can do with a Biden victory is to not get defensive when he makes a mistake but to show that it is normal and mandatory that he should be called out. The sooner that we can normalize this, the sooner we can keep people like trump out of the Whitehouse in the future. And this will probably take a long time to do...
