When talking best action I think it's best to think in terms of franchises rather than fixed number sets.

Although even that falls apart because some of the best action movies of all time are part of franchises that mix and match genres and/or fall apart over time.

• Aliens (2) was amazing, but Alien (1) was horror, not action, and the franchise jumped the shark after 3.

• Terminator 2 was amazing, T1 was horror (like Alien) but everything after 2 was garbage.

• Predator 1 and 2 walked the line between action and horror and was fantastic but fell apart after 2.

I could go on and on.

I'd just say John Wick is likely going to end up as one of the top franchises if they can nail #3. Honestly, the second John Wick was okay but I always looked at it as a bridge between 1 and 3. I think 3 really needs to deliver for this franchise to be worth talking about as a trilogy.
