Johnson & Johnson shares drop on Reuters report that the company knew for decades of asbestos in its baby powder

Holy shit, and here I thought the lawsuit was nonsense because there was no link between Talc and cancer.

My understanding is that the evidence is thin, perhaps even specious. If the jury in that case was comprised of scientists in related/relevant fields, or even laymen with a formal scientific education and who were in the habit of practicing good, intellectually honest skepticism, is entirely reasonable to think that verdict would have gone in the other direction.

Unfortunately, now the meme in popular culture -- witness the comments in this thread -- is that baby powder causes cancer. It doesn't matter what reality is; as long as the masses believe a thing is true, that must mean it is...right?
