Josh homme tone echo / delay

In pre villains live performances he used two different settings on the space echo; Mode selector on setting 5 (Reverb echo) or the reverb only setting.

And the Echodrive was used as an slapback delay before the space echo in the signal chain, with two different settings too; one with a traditional splapback sound and the other as an slapback with more trails.

He used to have a modded fuzzrocious demon very close to those pedals, but I’m not sure how he exactly located it in the signal chain. It had an always on octave mode. When he engages his octavia sounds, he switches to the neck position on the guitar, with the tone control on 0, and gets this fuzzy oscillating sounding tones (the little sister solo, the intro on keep your eyes peeled, etc).

So, for the crazy live delay intros... the subtle oscillating sound of a dirt octavia pedal plus an slapback delay with long trails (starting to self oscillate) and a lo fi reverb will get you there. Controlling the delay time with an expression pedal will let you oscillate the delay and roll back before it gets on an infinite loop. Improvise pick sliding on different speeds and doing this Hendrix-esque bendings Josh loves.

Hope that helps!
