Joss Whedon says it's "horseshit" that angry feminists drove him away from Twitter - Buffy creator wanted to 'go to the quiet place' to write again

I'm confused as to whether or not you are reading my comments. Let me brake this down for you. We have the literal definition of feminism here:

"the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men."

We have the example of the hate tweets here.

I'm not giving myself authority to do anything, I am simply looking at the definition right here, I am looking at these tweets, and I'm thinking to myself "what in sam hell does "YOUR MOVIE RUINED MY LIFE", "disgusting little rat", "unblock me I wanna fight", and "you're trash" have anything to do with the advocation for women's rights? Oh, that's right it's nothing. These people aren't feminists, based on what we know:

  1. none of the tweets advocate any form of feminism.

  2. these people have no fundamental understanding of their label if they think what they are doing falls in line with what feminism is.

Using a simple "put one and two together", or "add it all up" style of common sense, we can conclude the people involved in the hate mail are not "true feminists" as you put it based on the literal dictionary definition, not my own authority.

This leads me to a string of questions that are really starting to bug me:

  1. Please, for the love of all that is holy, explain to me how sending death threats and graphic insults to a filmmaker for arbitrary reasons is "feminist doctrine almost verbtim."

  2. Why do you keep trying to word everything you say as if the vocal minority of teens you find on social media encompasses and represent all and everything feminism is and strives to be? Do you think actual politically involved feminists voted the slew of teenage girls and boys you see here as their representatives?

Again to use Emma Watson as an example (again, one of the leading feminist advocates), she has expressed her distaste for the way the word has been manipulated to register as something it doesn't mean. "THEY" are not feminists, "THEY" call themselves feminists because again, "THEY" want to be a part of something without actually having to do anything. Martin Luther King Jr. was a black rights activist, the man who sat at home and wrote a letter to a congressman reading "You're a faggot" is not, that person is not an activist of anything. But now that letter gets posted in all the Newspapers, and hundreds of other "activists" see it and say their activists too because they call anyone that gives them a sideways glance a faggot too. Pretty soon we have people like you saying "Black rights activists don't want to be seen in a negative light, then maybe they shouldn't walk around calling everyone a faggot". Now Mr. King sits there with the same label as these people, a label that in the eyes of people like you is a dirty thing, a thing represented by these people because "if they call themselves it, it makes them that thing". Pretty soon black activism is "THEY" and "THEY threaten to kill people ove the most benign bullshit", and "THEY" are simply "being observed by enlightened outside viewers".

I did not say can we stop calling them feminists because I think you started it, but you would love to manipulate it to sound that way. I said it because these people are tarnishing something that is actually important, and it's people like you that prove this ignorance is not a myth.
