There’s an emerging narrative from the right that BLM has been co-opted by white revolutionary hipster crusties, who have parasitically hijacked a movement that is against racism into a wider movement about socialism, communism, anti-capitalism, SJW-ness, whatever you want to call it. This narrative is reassuring to them because it allowed them to be argue against BLM “for what it has become” without having to argue against anti-racism. I’ve heard people say that the left-wing politics in BLM are because it’s being controlled by Russians, George Soros, secret wealthy backers.

These people have no understanding whatsoever about what the Black Panthers were, what MLK or Malcolm X believed, even with Ilhan Omar her socialism is pegged to her foreign-ness. I struggle to think of any radical black activism that wasn’t pretty explicitly socialist.

The idea that black people might come up with revolutionary socialist ideas on their own, because it’s actually what they have concluded about society, hasn’t really occurred to them. Black people only care about black rights, radical left-wing political theory is something that whites must be forcing on them for their own purposes. You catch people revealing that opinion all the time in discussions about activism.
