Just 500 signatures needed to hit 25,000 and get more attention towards saving Guam Native land from being destroyed by military testing.

Are you serious? According to federal law the local public has multiple opportunities to make comments on any project. From what I remember the military went out of their way to provide expanded opportunities to comment. All comments with valid concerns were addressed and have even led to changes in the project, for instance the original plan for the firing range was in the Pagat area, but local protests because of historic sites led to it being changed to Ritidian. The problem is that a few people at the local (state level) government wants veto authority over the federal government, more power than any state has. Since they aren’t getting what they want they’re throwing an epic fit. The majority of the island is fine with the construction.

I have spoken with a member of this protest group who told me that he can’t wait until all non-Chamorro people are thrown off the island and all their homes bulldozed to make a paradise for his race only. These are the same people who take federal funds to deny people their rights to vote based on their race. There’s a case headed to the Supreme Court on it right now. Maybe you’re ok with race-based discrimination but I’m not. Guam is 30% Chamorro, about 30% Filipino, then a mix of Asians, Micronesians, and finally a tiny minority of whites (from US, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe) and blacks. Everyone who lives on the island should be respected, which I haven’t seen from the protesters.

I have spent most of my life on Guam and was raised in a Chamorro family. I know first hand what is going on there. I don’t care if some stranger on Reddit chooses to be a jerk about it. You don’t know the first thing about local politics. It’s not like the continental US.
