Just another November teacher rant

Sounds rough. I really despise when parents change their tune like that. What grade do you have? I have 4th and was having similar issues -not quite as drastic though. I was going home crying almost every day feeling like a failure. So, finally, one day about three weeks ago I calmly explained to the kids how they made me feel. I explained why our class is important and why I care about each one of them (like directly called each student by name and said reasons I thought they were neat or needed my help). I explained I knew they could be successful but none of us would be if we didn't all try harder - including me. So I had them write a paragraph about how they would "be a better classmate." And I wrote a paragraph about how I will be a better teacher. It worked on my group. I don't know your kids though. I hope you start having a better year!
