So I just beat Half-Life 2 for the first time.

I never really clicked with the Metro games, but even Half-Life devs have namedropped them as a successor. The PS3 Resistance games have some similarities. Singularity is a fun mashup of ideas from Half-Life and Bioshock.

Some people will tell you Dishonored and Prey and yes, those are exceptional games, but they're from a totally different (though equally good) design lineage.

Truth be told? I don't think any other FPS has really had the same kind of design-driven, chapter-to-chapter focus that HL2 had.

Half-Life 2 had eclectic and varied gameplay scenarios, one after another after another. You're always either learning something new or perfecting some technique or idea that the game has you chasing after. Point Insertion is wildly different from Route Canal is wildly different from Ravenholme is wildly different from Nova Proskpekt.

What else out there is really like Half-Life? Fuck all.
