Just because you're an ancap doesn't mean you know anything about economics

I absolutely agree, good post. Unfortunately, there seems to be a correlation between having below-average knowledge and the desire to be a spokesman for a cause.

I don't have a theory on why that's the case. Maybe it's really just that much harder to come up with arguments and data in front of a small audience than behind a screen and I'm doing people injustice. But if you run around, calling yourself a libertarian/AnCap/conservative/liberal/whatever all the time, are the host of a political podcast and it's clear that you've never read any important literature on 'your' political philosophy at all, that's just sad.

It's, as you said, not an exclusive problem of AnCaps, it's not even a problem exclusive to more "extreme" political views. Just look at some of the 'conservative' Internet celebrities like Stephen Crowder who got embarrassed in a debate by fucking Joe Rogan, who has a high school level of education at best when it comes to economy, or this blond girl, I forgot her name, Lauren something. Let's not even start with socialists and SJWs.
