Just Being “Not Racist” Is Not Good Enough | By Joe Thomas

I wasn't aware there was an "antiracist" industry.

Of course. These ideas have been around the left forever and people are acting like they're new. It's not uncommon for companies to hire these people to speak and do classes. There's a shitty book written about it called White Fragility.

The people that say they're doing enough by simply not being racist, [in my opinion and experience] are exactly the kind of people who have benefited from the system in the first place.

What is it people should do then? If you ask me, economic liberation of all working class people is really the heart of this. Racial prejudice matters a lot less when the black or other minority person can't be economically harmed by it. In terms of policing, the general trend is that poor people commit more crime, encounter the police more, and are more likely to be the victims of police violence (also overwhelmingly male but nobody likes to point that out). Racism exists and is a problem but I think everybody is fooling themselves if they think rich white people like Joe Thomas (notice his wealth..) being "antiracist" is going to do anything. System institutional racism is built from the top down not the bottom up and best cure (although not a complete one) is the economic liberation of all people. That should be the goal.
