Just bought a 30k car cash....welfare card in lap....

Yes. I actually just had a car die on me on Thursday. My first car I got when I was 17, a 2000 Toyota Camry. It was a great car that costed me very little in maintenance and Ins. I literally drove it to the ground. I am looking to replace it with either another older model car for around 2-3k or I am going to do an engine swap with a crate motor. Not sure yet, I have my dad taking a look at it on monday to determine the feasibility. He's an ex airplane mechanic with 30 years experience in jet engine rebuilding and he now owns a car shop that doesn't really do engine rebuilds but we do what we want, lol. I make a very decent salary and was driving a pile of crap basically. All my co workers have very nice cars with big payments and sometimes make comments about my car as if I care. For the past few years I've stock piled a ton of cash because I don't make car payments and that has really allowed me to save for retirement and set up a great stock portfolio. I snowboard and each year I do a 10-20 day trip to the mountains where I snowboard my BMW car payment for the year. Last year I spent about 5-6k for my gf and I to go to Breckenridge, Vail, Keystone, Beaver Creek and Copper Mountain. Most people would rather drive a fast car and look like they have it all and I would rather live within my means and save for what I am passionate about and thats early retirement, nice vacations and security for my future family (dating for 3 years, not married, no kids, just bought a home). So this guy with a 30k car doesn't even phase me. I get looks all the time when I used to drive my car... it didn't sound too good. It had a blown rod in the engine that ticked like a bitch, but to fix it was frivolous as there was no guarantees and fixing it may have broken it faster had I tried. It lasted 2 extra years from the start of the problem so I see that as a win. People like this guy may look great from the outside but you can't read a boom by its cover. People may view me sitting in my bad car as if I am the guy on welfare or possibly that I have a low income but it's actually the opposite and I'm A OK with it. As they say, haters gonna hate.
