Just bought my first pound.... OF SEEDS. Random forests will ensue.

I actually did that back in my teens.

My friend had given me a large sack of seed to get rid of back in the mid 80s. I lived next to a park, and on the other side of the park was a creek and then a tall undeveloped hill with a eucalyptus forest. And there was a path leading from the creek to streets and housing of the neighboring town on the other side of the hill (also the next county, but not as far as it sounds). So, the easy way to get there from my house was to cross the creek (the county/city line) and take the trail. And one day, I took those seeds with me and spread them all around the trail. And then promptly forgot I had even done it, it was so inconsequential.

But a few months later, I was awakened in the middle of the night by a commotion outside. Without turning on my lights, I peered out my bedroom window that faced the park. I could see two police cars parked in the cul-de-sac, facing the hill on the other side of the creek, with their flood lamps on. Then, I heard a helicopter flying overhead. Something was going down. So I opened my window a crack at the bottom so I could hear what was going on better.

Then I saw a couple of cops combing the area around the path on the other side of the creek. Spotlights from the helicopter started shining on the area. I heard a cop yell out "I found some more over here!" And then, it dawned on me what was happening.

They were raiding the plants that grew from the seeds I spread. The seeds I had totally forgotten about. And I could see them chopping down plants that were a few feet high, at least. But not even close to harvest.

So, I figure I lucked out in forgetting them. Because, had I been tending them and the cops been surveilling them (this was the 80s, back when cops actually did detective work), I would have been busted right along with the plants. And no, I never went to check to see if they got them all. Even that was too risky. Waiting for someone to return to the scene of the crime, and all that. Nope, I never took that trail again. I took the long way around after that.
