Just came across Autism being represented positively on a another sub!

idk if you meant to phrase it that way, but your comment's tone is thick with racial ignorance. ofc this is r/autism, it's very possible your phrasing just came off biased but that's not what you think abt it in your head.

the reality is, especially in the US, black people and white people are de-facto segregated resulting in independent cultures.

independent cultures means autism/falling out of the social norms manifests differently because it's virtually two different societies.

this means when black people are getting evaluated by white professionals, their autism symptoms may be overlooked as them just being "black," because the professional has no lived experience/frame of reference as to what is actually normal. Couple with the hundreds of years of systemic racism meaning there is (near) zero incentive in producing scientific data detailing how black autistics present, or even getting the opinions of black people.

Also similar to how women mask more because they have patriarchy-instilled social obligations, systemic racism means black autistics have to mask more, and if they don't they're at risk of death.
