I just can't like my stepson and i feel like poop about it

It is so hard when they lie all the time! I don't know if you SS lies about stupid things too, but ours will lie over things like "Is the milk finished?" Why lie?! What is the point? You just threw the carton away, you can say "yes." It's not something that gets you in trouble, I just want to know if I am making up the grocery list. After a while it gets to be too much to call them on it all the time too. I don't have the energy. I was hoping that the drug scare would have taught him there are consequences to lying, that maybe he should tell the truth. But, with the chickens it seems like he missed that lesson entirely. I'm not sure what else to do.
