Just doing bits

Yes and no. It was in 2015 shortly after the riots/uprising in Ferguson. There was a victim of a still mysterious crime, a man by the name of “Freddie Gray/Grey.” He was put into a police van on his stomach with his hands cuffed. He complained a few blocks later that he was having breathing troubles, but unfortunately “I can’t breathe” was sort of like today’s “don’t get near me, I have The Virus” so he wasn’t taken too seriously.

He suffered a neck injury at some point and was on a ventilator then in a coma, and passed away. Some people thought the cops broke his neck when they put him down to arrest him, and some people thought the cops gave him a “rough ride” and slammed him around so badly they broke his neck.

So the city went batshit crazy. Part of it was in real protest, and part of it — the majority of it — was just crimes of opportunity. Many of the places that they set on fire were......pharmacies. That they had looted of their narcotic stash. Systematically, multiple pharmacies were targeted and massive quantities of narcotics were stolen. Then, drug wars broke out with elevated levels of deaths (rather than shootings, which were more typical in injury types) because too many people who shouldn’t have had stashes of drugs to sell were selling drugs and pissing off the normal crime gang system in the city.

A huge group of teens went around for a few days breaking windows and robbing malls, stores and targeting some material items typical to what teens would want, too.

After the first night, it was free money time, and less “we’re mad about what happened to some guy in the neighborhood the next street over.”
