You just don't understand art...

This reminds me so much of my first boyfriend at 19. He was I think 23 or 24 and going to art school. We went to a museum and looked at a "piece" that was literally a canvas painted black or red, or white, I don't remember. It was the 80's.

So I am standing in front of this one color painted canvas and I comment, I could do this.

Holy shit the drama that ensued because I dared to comment other than complete adulation about this, what literally looked like a painted wall, but on a large canvas.

So he for the next hour explained to me how "I just couldn't see it", "How it moved" and just a bunch of BS to make himself feel so much more cultured than I was.

There was another time and another boyfriend, we visited a museum in WDC and there was a Rembrandt exhibition. I commented that Rembrandt had students do a lot of his work for him. This was the early 90's before the internet was really a thing, I had read this tidbit in a book. And again, I got lectured to about how much knowledge I lacked.

I love art, almost all of it. But, I won't go to an art museum with a boyfriend ever again. And sorry, not sorry, someone filling a glass cube with piss and inserting a Christ statue in it is not "ART".
