Just Finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and I'm confused. Let's Discuss

You make an unexpected point. However, This story is directly, deliberately, specifically, intentionally and overtly about Artificial Intelligence and how it will likely be a lineage of evolution. Thus the story not only can but really should be attributted to AI.

Many films cannot be so attributed while some can be, for examples:

2001 was about AI (and pointedly no one got laid at all), War Games was about AI, The Matrix was about AI ( kinda).

On the other hand Wagon Train was tv show about white cowboys and the frontier and stuff and Star Trek was specifically written just as Wagon Train but in post racial space.

The Seven Samurai was about 7 Japanese Samuri dudes and Rogue One was The Seven Samurai in Space.

20,000 leagues Under the Sea was about time travel submarines with dinosaur antagonists and Star wars was 20,000 leagues under outer space but with Peter Pan and Wendy on board and giant assed dinosaur robots. Harry Potter was just Star Wars for kids, back out of space now, in the British industrial revolution times, without the dumb little panda bear dwarfs and shit and with a rustic train instead of the Millenium Falcon.

Guess who's coming to Dinner was about rascism in the 50s and Night of the living Dead was just Guess Who's... coming to eat you for dinner ( it's zombies btw) and racism.

Shane was about a badass christian loner protecting a boy on the frontier and The book of Eli was Shane but with a double baddass black Samurai-for-Jesus dude and a white woman of legal age of consent in place of the boy.

Escape from New York doesn't have to be about anything except its own baddassery - otherwise Ernest Borgnine wouldn't even be it.

Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie about a ride at Disneyland but with real rum. It is next to Indiana Jones which is a ride at Disneyland about a movie that is a remake of the old Buckaroo Bonzai series but now taken from space and put in a cave during steam power and leather days. The line for both of them stretches all the way into frontierland which is a rumless theme park quadrant about the tv series where we started, wagon train ...

sorry if I sound snarky, i am very tongue in cheek on this.
