Just got accepted into CS

  1. If you manage your time well and start labs and projects as soon as possible, you'll have a lot better time in CS. A lot of students wait till the very last minute to do labs and projects in CS1 and CS2 and do fine, and it becomes an issue in the upper level courses when students put off doing mechanics (and other upper level courses) labs and projects and find themselves unable to complete them. Also, there are a lot of different majors in GCCIS and at RIT. Don't be afraid to take classes in different majors to see if another major would interest you.
  2. It depends on the class. For example: CS1 and CS2: Python and Java CS AP: Java (but I think the curriculum has changed) Mechanics of Programming: C Concepts of CS: MIPS assembly Intro to SE: Python and Django
  3. If you score high enough on the AP exam, you can get placed into the CS for AP class and it'll put you one semester ahead of those starting in CS1.
  4. There's a lot of clubs on campus. If you're interested in computing related clubs, I would recommend checking out codeRIT, SPARSA, RC3,WiC
