This is how the ladder works.

You're broke all the time but everything will change when you get that private ticket. You're still broke but the instrument will certainly change things. Alright alright still broke but you got a commercial ticket now, that means you're about to be getting paid. What? 500hrs total time to fly a 172 around the expressway? ...ok maybe I just need to get my CFI. I'll instruct kids and build that time. CFI-I required? damnit. Ok now I'm broke again but I got that CFI-I and MEI for good measure. Maybe if I move to the next job it'll be good. Shit I'm broke from the move but hey this flight school has a king air I might get to fly. I'm broke but somehow I got an iPad this is pretty swell.

It sure is hot in this 152 but I'll do pattern work for the next two years because hey I might get SIC time in the C-90. WHATTAYA MEAN SHE GOT THE KING AIR JOB, SHE WAS HIRED LAST WEEK? SHE FAILED HER INSTRUMENT TWICE!!!

Still broke but I'm approaching 1500 hours. Mom keeps sending me money but it's ok. Any day now that King Air job is coming.

Oh wow wee after all these years I get to fly a jet. Hey what do you mean the sims are unavailable. What do you mean based on the other side of the country in a super expensive metro area? I've been sitting on my hands for months, can I get to the sim? No? Shit... Alright checkride passed and now it's on to 70 hours of IOE. Still broke but check out my sweet uniform.
