I Just Got Fired: The Importance of Savings

My last employer told me not to come in, shut down my email, ignored my calls and then two days later sent me a letter of termination in the mail for "job abandonment". I called the president of the company to ask what happened and she told me that HR had told her I had not contacted them or replied to their emails so I was fired and would not get my vacation paid out. Now they're refusing to confirm I worked there. I've had to ask new employers to call the vp on engineering so they would get an answer at all. They also refused to reimburse the meals I had at a company function (while on a company sponsored trip) because I did not get it sufficiently itemized. Total nightmare.
