He won't have the experience to understand everything they do, but it will still be valuable for improving. I'm trying to think about if it would have helped me when I was new, and I do think I would have been doing a lot of more "advanced" things sooner had I just seen them. So I think exposure to the highest levels of play can inspire and instruct.

Much of the benefits one can gain from something like watching videos of others playing has a lot to do with the individual and ones ability to objectively analyse oneself along with the content of the video and scrupulously apply the most pertinent aspects of what was watched. Meaning simply, watching high level play could be priceless for one person and useless for the next.
