just maybe

Yes. The irony is that humans are also really bad about habit forming, even on a societal level. The people who can do the most good have that power through means that require them to either be shielded by the pain of others (via rich people echo chambers) or just be without empathy (see the correlation amongst business success and anti-social mental issues).

Bill Gates as an example was given a ton of money from family and a head start to start his business of privatizing publicly developed computing systems for personal wealth gain, and now he's even more ridiculously rich than he would be if he just mooched off his family his whole life. But now he's using it to further his own brand by using a foundation fucking named after HIMSELF and not after the people who actually developed the tech he basically stole to make his money. Not to say the foundation doesn't do good work, but if he had an idea of what his place actually is in the world, Gates would have given up all of his money with no strings attached to a robust, international organization to work to reduce the kind of bullshit favoritism and theft of labor value that allowed him to be what he is in the first place.
