Is it just me or are a lot of people here oversensitive/sjw?

You might have been lucky. I have experienced quite a few people at UCSC who will not give any tolerance to nonconforming groups of people, particularly revolving around nonconforming gender identities (trans / non-binary). Which I'll admit for me took some getting used to, and I still don't fully understand, but I don't see why people don't respect it; it really comes down to personal respect more than anything political (the people I'm mentioning have no personal respect)

That said, I'm in a similar position to you - I'm extremely progressive compared to most of my family and a fair number of my friends, but I feel downright conservative sometimes at UCSC. I haven't ever been cancelled (that would take me having any notoriety to begin with, which I don't think is really a thing in college), but I've definitely felt uncomfortable openly discussing a fair few thoughts in class, section, or in personal situations.
