Just a monthly reminder to calm the fuck down

I called you out after you told someone to stop, quote, "pulling stupid opinions straight out of their ass".

Yes, and I responded to you admitting as much. As far as being polite goes, that was a comment aimed squarely at attacking the premises of an argument. So, yes, I could have been nicer, but it was aimed directly at the fact that the person in question didn't know what they were talking about, which is true. I demonstrated as much later in that thread. (Also, admittedly, it was post game so I wasn't at my best.)

The tone of the analytics guys around here, yourself included, make that very difficult.

I appreciate that and I'm flattered that you think I'm an "analytics guy". But, please, it works the other way as well. When someone raises a question for the umpteenth time and then calls you an idiot for pointing out the exact same thing you've always pointed out with absolutely no supporting evidence, it is difficult to not get snappy.

I've done two long form-ish posts here and they are ignored, despite the fact that I've linked to them what I'm sure is an infuriating amount of times. People choose not to engage with the information I've put out there. And that's fine, I rarely go to insults in my response to somebody unless it's clear they're looking for it (the example you presented is one of very few), and I honestly don't think I've ever even risen to the level of telling someone to fuck off. But when somebody floats an opinion based on provably wrong information and then goes after me for it when I've corrected them? In that situation I typically call their argument stupid. Because it is. And if they keep pushing I tell them that they're stupid. Which may be a bridge too far but in those cases it's clear that the problem is that they are being stupid.

People are welcome, in fact I encourage it, to disagree with me on matters of fact and the logic I use. I'm super careful to make what I'm saying explicit for that very reason.

But, as it stands, not all opinions are equal and I'm having a hard time feeling bad about teasing posters who dig-in in the face of all available evidence.
