No one is saying you didn't make a good and interesting point. You just got a detail wrong. No, it obviously wasn't a detail that was important to your point. But some people like accuracy on well-known details like that, because when someone can't be bothered to get something like that right, one sometimes wonders what other details they might not be bothered to get right.

I'm not saying that's the case with you. I'm saying there's no need to take the corrections personally or to feel attacked or to assume that people are saying it undermines your bigger point. It would be like expounding on a well-known point made by Stephen Hawkins but attributing it to Albert Einstein. The Gospels are attributed to the apostles, not to Jesus himself.
