I do think it’s a lot of sexist ideas about mental illness that sometimes cause people to not recognize bodybuilding behaviours as disordered when they readily would recognize anorexia or bulimia as illnesses.

Not saying all bodybuilding is disordered or all bodybuilders are male (obviously). But when you have people in these communities eating incredibly restrictively, doing permanent kidney and heart damage, dangerously abusing steroids, talking about carbs like they’re the literal enemy of the free world...all of this is more often written off as being devoted or at worst “weird” rather than a destructive addiction and illness. And I think that in large part because of the masculinity associated with these pursuits that there’s a hesitancy to truly recognize the prevalence of muscle dysmorphia and other issues like that.
