Just picked up a new spinning reel for crappie and largemouth bass.

I already taught you. They're clearly supposed to be reeled in. How else are you going to catch fish? Exactly, by reeling it in.

The issue is that if you treat it like you're a bass fishermen(casting and reeling 500 times in a hour), you're going to wear down the mechanism much faster. Spinning reels, unlike conventional reels, require very expensive maintenance and more often than not, it is cost effective to just buy another reel. However buying another reel isn't very realistic for many people - maybe not you.

The mechanism wears down faster because you are constantly disengaging and engaging the second drag system when you stop the bait runner feature. Wear and tear, I'm sure you're familiar with this term, is what's accelerated. You can of course prevent this by regressing and greasing every single thing in the reel that factories never do.

Take apart the reel like a good fishermen does and learn the system. You will see for yourself.
