Just signed Offer Letter and am now officially a PM (increased TC by 215k). AMA.

I was a Business Analyst

The first thing that I focused on was partnering closely w/ PM team. I was the only Analyst for the company which meant I served Product, Sales, Marketing, etc. But I always made an effort to collaborate closely w/ Product team to learn more about what they do, how they do it, etc.

The second thing I did was finding opportunities to go above and beyond and translate data findings into real solutions. Given the company was growing really quickly and people were always wearing multiple hats, there were a lot of projects that just didn't get done due to bandwidth

I always stayed later or worked extra to create proposed plans for things based on what I was seeing in the data and then often times would actually just try to do the project myself or get it to the point where it could handed off to another team. I think this experience was the most helpful because it showcases a lot of the skills PMs use (communication, collaboration, prioritization, discovery etc.)
