Just a simple meme.

It may seem counterintuitive, but this is highly unlikely. Even though this is r/funny, I ''Splain, why not.

You can divide the world of work into four broad groups: nonroutine cognitive (uses brainpower to handle a variety of different problems in the workday: judge, for example); routine cognitive (uses BP on repetitive tasks: radiologist); nonroutine manual (uses physical effort in a wide variety of situations: hotel housekeeper) and routine manual (uses PE on a repetitive task).

The easiest to automate are the two routine classes, and in fact automation is already widespread in those areas - my brother worked for GM tightening the same two bolts over and over on the line? That job went years ago. I pulled plywood veneer off a conveyor belt (the "green chain"); I believe that position had been eliminated industry-wide by 1980. But short order cook? Unless your restaurant has an extremely simple menu, cooks must execute a wide variety of complex subroutines in random order, dictated by customer whim. Automating countrr help would be easier, but automating the line cooks would be difficult and expensive, if it could be done at all within some sane economic limit.

Not to overlook the fact that business owners who "just can't" pay $15/hr. are usually lying sacks.
