Just started. Kinda boring, does it get better?

The game does a miserable job at first impressions and I won't begrudge anyone for dropping the game after doing the missions on Earth - especially if you don't have any friends or know anyone personally that plays the game.

That said, I started and gave up on the game twice eventually giving it a proper go last August because all the hype around the game was reaching critical mass. I kept asking myself "was I playing the game wrong?" or "am I taking crazy pills?"

This video was the straw on the camel's back that got me to try it a third time with the goal of finishing the quest called The Second Dream. It's widely recognized to be the turning point for many people in Warframe where the game opens up to you in a new way and it's positioned on the star chart where you'll have been forced to wade your toes into building and crafting a couple new Warframes and Weapons as well as experimenting with a couple mods.

It's a huge ask of new people to stick with it for potentially 70-80+ hours to reach the point where you'll reach The Second Dream but I can say that after a thousand hours in seven months it was well worth it for me personally.

If you do decide to stick around and give it an honest go here are some things that can help you out:

  • Your primary objective ought to be finishing the Star Chart to unlock the next planet on your way to Neptune (and the Second Dream quest)

  • Your secondary objectives ought to be to look for cool looking Warframes or weapons in the market, buying their blueprints for credits and then farming the materials to build them. Oftentimes as you farm for one thing, you'll discover that you met the requirements to build another thing.

  • While this is a f2p game, I'd argue that the $20 starter pack is near mandatory because the only really scummy part of this game is the cost of Warframe and Weapon slots requiring the premium currency - currency which is hard to earn as a new player unless you're being guided by someone much more knowledgeable and playing the market.

  • Don't spend your platinum on cosmetics and instead only spend it on slots. After finishing up most of the star chart and the quests, you'll get to a point where you can reliably earn platinum on your own to spend on cosmetics. If you must spend some plat on color pallets, buy the Classic Saturated pack first as it has the widest selection of colors.

  • Tikal on Earth will be your go-to farming place for credits and neurodes early on. Seimeni on Ceres will be the next place you'll want to go to to level up your frames/weapons and earning cash later on.

  • Ask a lot of questions in chat. People will often bend over backwards to help out new people. The community is largely Warframe's greatest strength so take advantage of it.
