Just a thought

As someone who loves the Netflix show, I really just was somehow able to not compare the two.

Even though I was a kid in the toonami days and had all the dvds and got the movie I just was able to shut off any expectations of a 1 to 1.

I’ll say the reason I think for me it’s this way is for my experience with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. They took a 3 hour segment of the game and turned it into 45-50 hour story.

Once I saw the promotional of vicious and Julia I knew what I was in for. To me, Vicious and Sephiroth are similar characters enough to, in my own head, want vicious to kind of be treated like Sephiroth in OG FF7.

Vicious was actually treated that way in the Anime, as sort of a terrifying being. Spike and Cloud being their respective “brothers” who have a score to settle and it effects other people.

The FF7 remake and the bebop adaptation had to go similar routes in fleshing these characters out more because I feel like anything not explicitly explained or spelled out to people is dismissed as a plot hole.

Which makes the kind of mythical terrifying being that somehow walks the earth and is getting in the way of our protagonists kind of fall flat and at worst, more relatable.

With that being said I fucking loved Jet. I loved Spike. Faye grew on me and I’m just fine with how they changed her. I’ll be ok about it.

Ein was spot on, amazing performance.

Ed, ok so I finished the last episode way later than everyone and I saw a meme of The Godfather how they ruined my boy and I knew it was Ed but I didn’t see Ed. I spent every episode anticipating radical Edward’s introduction. I somehow mistakenly assumed that Netflix has watered down possibly my favorite character.

I heard the reference to the hacker and then I thought Ed would be some fucking crass wiz kid who is just strange in their own way. Not our anime bebop way.

It seems they are going the anime accurate Ed which was a pleasant surprise given the hate. I thought that’s what the majority wanted.

I saw complaints on the age and I just don’t get where age is so important. It’s never been a crucial plot point to where it has to be a major issue for so many people.
