In just three years, physician burnout increased from 45.5% to 54.4%. New research found that three factors contribute: The doctor-patient relationship has been morphed into an insurance company-client relationship; Feelings of cynicism; and Lack of enthusiasm for work.

Opinion from health insurance worker here. We’re not trying to diagnose your patient or tell you that we know better when it comes to what treatment they need. We’re trying to ensure the treatment they received is covered under the benefits that the patient bought from us. And we’re trying to make sure they or you are not trying to fraud us by billing for unnecessary treatments. If the insurer asks that your doctor try a different route of treatment, yes be annoyed with them for interfering, but also question your doctors motives for choosing one path over the other. Are they trying to make you well or are they trying to find a diagnosis that will keep you coming back to them for further treatment?
