Just unsubbed from r/redditmoment because they think telling a 15 year old to send b00bies and take off their clothes is irony so it must be hilarious

To play the devil's advocate for a moment, have you actually seen that film or has the backlash to Netflix's God awful marketing put a blindfold over your face? Because the film does not actually revel in what has been assumed of it. It's actually a critique of that sort of thing, directed by a PoC women, inspired by some of her experiences growing up. It played at a film festival before it was bought by Netflix and was received fairly well. Does that mean everyone in attendance is a pedophile? No, there was nary a peep about it. Consider that the film being thought up as pedo-bait happened long after that premiere, during Netflix's marketing campaign. Consider that Netflix apologized for its abhorrent marketing of the film but didn't apologise for picking the film up or drop it from their release schedule after that.

But, oh, you saw this clip of it on social media with the context that the film presented it in completely gutted. But, oh, you couldn't read past Netflix's fuck up. It must be the most stomach turning, disgusting piece of film ever produced! The FBI must be watching you as you hit play on it!

None of this is to say you can't have issues with the film. Art is inherently a subjective experience. But if you're judging it by its severe misfire in the marketing department, you should probably reevaluate your stance.
