Just watched Casablanca. I cannot impress upon you all how much you have to see this movie if you haven't already. Truly epic.

It doesn't change the fact your statement was misleading.

You said categorically that I was wrong, that it wasn't in France.

It categorically is set in France.

It's only misleading if you don't know. I find arguments from ignorance to be a pain. "What you said could seem wrong to someone who doesn't get it".

What level am I supposed to talk? Bearing in mind I only innocently quoted the film.

I've lived in France, UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, USA, some west coast African area (not being specific there, gives away a lot) - so to me this is not something I feel like I need to split hairs with then I quote a goddamn script! Now not only is it 100% entirely accurate because even if Morocco was never owned by France, this is a work of fiction, and even when set in real world locations / times / events the canon of the film is absolute, it is actually 100% accurate in real life, that area was France (in so much as we're talking about the location assumed, not the set which was in LA).

That wasn't a misquote, do you really want me to do what I did to the other idiot and educate you on how people work?

I was making a point about how you must think something, then mocking you by giving it a voice. It's like when you force idiots to state their actual case clearly - that's when the idiocy comes clear.

It's called an angle bracket.

It's not misquoting, I was quoting myself, talking in a voice of someone who was an idiot. It's like how all "quotes in books" aren't said by the same person, you'll get used to it, "sometimes different people talk", ejaculated Holmes.

/u/gpace1216 I, too, took history classes and understand that borders and ownership change throughout time. I recognize France owned Morocco at that time. It doesn't change the fact your statement was misleading. It'd be similar to offering someone a piece of fruit with their breakfast, then handing them a tomato. Technically a fruit, but still a misleading offer, as the average person (maybe not you, and that's fine if thats how you discuss tomatoes) does not put tomatoes in the "breakfast fruit" category. Similarly, the average person does not think "North Africa" when someone says "in France."

You have a low opinion of average people - it's set in the war, just because you don't know what happens doesn't mean I have to lie about what happened to make it less confusing for you.

"But...but... I already know they have other names and history didn't change since this movie... so it seems easier!"

The way you indented it out with the side bracket is used on reddit to show a quote from the parent comment. Just as you did in your most recent post to me. Using the side bracket and then making up a comment said by no one is misquoting. But maybe I'm too stupid to read.
