And also, are you aware of any rule changes that lit the coals on fire for for the buy-to-rent housing business? Because if the rules never changed for those businesses, just the economy changed to make those businesses more profitable and want to expand, then it seems disingenuous to put half the blame on them as opposed to the powers that be that helped shape the economy in such a way that incentivized these businesses to grow and operate more extensively. Blame our governor for handing out billion dollar tax write-offs and inviting thousands more “jobs” here with no such housing to provide. Blame the federal government and federal reserve for loose money policies during COVID (but also remember they helped a lot of people in the process). There’s plenty of blame to go around if that’s what you’re looking to do. But what you can do that’s within your control specific to Austin is to upskill, pivot, and job hop in the private sector.
