I live in Korea (US citizen) and I more or less agree. It's very derivative from Western music and there really is nothing super special about it. Plus, the industry is a toxic shitshow where ethics and decency get thrown out the window. I will admit though that the choreography in their videos is usually top-notch.

However, what really turns me off though is the fans. A lot of them are batshit insane. They demand from their favorite idols when the idols get married, are delusionary stalkers, and have engaged in other insane behavior.

The Western "koreaboos" especially annoy me because they have inaccurate impressions of Korea from what they see in Kdramas, KPOP videos, etc. It is well-established that those types are usually the quickest to leave after coming to Korea because they get so disappointed.

I do love Korea though, don't get me wrong but KPOP is definitely not for me.
