Kaine: 'Even Richard Nixon' released his tax returns

Nixon had redeeming qualities insofar as he had a Democratic Congress (not necessarily a liberal one) that was eager to consolidate what Great Society domestic policy gains they could, and knew which battles to fight. Nixon tried to thwart them somewhat, which led to the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act being passed in 1974, but was more focused on making a mark in foreign policy. Nixon also declared the War on Drugs, but given the mainstream political climate at the time, I also feel that would have happened no matter who would have won in 1968; Wallace might well have called for capital punishment for recreational use though. Hard to say.

Still, I'd have taken Nixon over any Republican running this year. But I also happen to be a straight white millennial working-class male who was raised Protestant. "Your mileage may vary." I mean, Kasich doesn't strike me as a Keynesian but is also not anti-Semitic, for instance.

If it were @dick_nixon though, I'd call it a win for everyone.
