it does depend on it from other people's perspective, and in part Askren's perspective, which is what the joke's about. like i said somewhere else, i'm not faulting Kamaru for using his Nigerian heritage out of pride or for his image or whatever, but you definitely can't argue that a lot of people in his position wouldn't happily and instinctively identify themselves as American, at least in part. he works there, he's got the accent, mannerisms, and has spent the vast majority of his life there. there's no issue with him calling himself "The Nigerian Nightmare" and flying the flag, he's as much Nigerian as he is American, the joke is just that America might have had just as much, if not more, influence on his life than Nigeria did, not that Nigeria had no influence at all.
