Karen Bass moves ahead of Rick Caruso in L.A. mayor's race

Yeah. And I'm actually cautiously optimistic for what this means in 2 years. Irvine, which is usually slightly bluer than Newport Beach, had lower turnout (only 39%) than in 2020 and the majority of those who voted (likely the aging and declining white boomer population there) voted for Baugh. The Dem population in Irvine includes a lot of older Asian immigrants or their Gen z kids, both of whom are known for lower turnout in the midterms. A lot can change in 2 years, but I actually think Porter's fight in 2024 won't be as difficult as this election.

And unlike in other districts nearby, it's not strategic for the GOP to find Republicans with Asian names to try to sway moderate Asian voters, since the district includes white dominated Newport Beach now. They'll likely pit another Baugh like dude against Porter, or try to find a republican white woman.
