Holy fuck. This makes so much sense. One of the weirder manifestations of this for me is that unless I am asleep, I have to make sure I breathe as silently as possible, even if I have just engaged in physical activity such as the 2 flights of stairs I have to run up every day at work. I listen to everyone else catch their breath and whatnot and think, "that doesn't bother me one bit [contrary to what was demanded of me as a kid] but man, the average person doesn't even so much as think about the noise they make when they breathe?"

As they say, "the kid you just said is mature for her age and acts wise beyond their years? The 'old souls'? Yeah, they're the abused ones."
