The difference is, Mormonism isn't a cult disguising itself as a religion. They don't blackmail people who try to leave the church. They don't systematically abuse people. I don't know a lot about mormons. Their beliefs may be a little whacky but the are considered respectful and decent people. Why would they garner attention from the media? Who want's to hear about that? Mormonism had it's time in the spotlight with SP and The Book of Mormon.

Scientologists label people not in favor of the church as toxic. The church encourages members to permanently cease all relations with friends/family/children/mothers/fathers/brothers/sisters if the church finds them to be toxic. It takes nothing to be found toxic.. If your mother reads an anti scientology article she is know toxic and the member can never speak or see her again, and if the member attempts to remain in contact they are blackmailed.

This is an institution the US government gave tax exempt status to after they bullied the IRS! Media attention totally warranted.
