I love how the picture is of vegetables, like that's what they buy with food stamps. Nah, they buy chips, soda, energy drinks, etc. etc. with that shit.

We need huge reform for food stamps.

Funny story, I used to work at a bodega my family owned in the South Bronx for a while as a cashier, and you've pretty much nailed it.

With the young families, they would give the kids free reign on using the card on chips, soda, candy, and cold cut sandwiches. The adults would do the same - cold cuts, bread, sandwiches, chips, soda, and other junk food. We had one family where the husband and wife were not married on paper OR living together (on paper), but they had 7 kids (3 baby daddies, the 3rd one being the "husband"), which netted them close to $1400 (or $1600? I forgot) a month in FS and other benefits - PLUS the husband worked. They would routinely get mad at us for our refusal to exchange the FS for cash, and say they'd go to the other bodega across the street. Guess which bodega got shut down for selling loosies and trading FS for cash? Not ours. FUCK those that abuse the FS system (sadly these people were citizens, having been born in Puerto Rico).

The ones that usually kept a tight grip and used their food stamp cards correctly were the older retirees who budgeted everything (since they were living on limited income and SSI). Granted these retirees were US citizens and had worked their way to retirement, and used FS as supplement to SSI.
