Kelly Townsend Bill Would Ban Use of Utility Bills, Student Cards as Voter ID

I truly want to understand the voter ID controversy. I smoke. I have to present my ID almost every other day. Most of the time, nowadays, they don’t even just look at it. They scan the damn thing. So that I can kill myself and no one else unless they decide to sit next to me.

When I first moved to Arizona from out of state, I realize that my old ID was run down and barely visible. I was not able to buy cigarettes at most major convenience stores anywhere in the valley. From Gilbert to Glendale.

Now from my perspective, voting is much more important than smoking. I had to get my birth certificate shipped from another state, and then that whole ordeal took about a month. Having to pay for them to look for it, then send me it. And then go down to the MVD here in Arizona to get a new ID, and then to wait for it to come in the mail only for tonight get delivered and I have to go and repeat the cycle And that was just so that I could get a decent job here, just so I could buy cigarettes, so that I could live somewhere.

So tell me, what is the controversy behind this voter ID thing? I truly want to understand what is the damn difference. You have to have an ID for just about everything nowadays. Hell, if you get stopped by the police just walking down the street and you do not have one and they cannot prove who you are through your birthdate and Social Security number, then they will take you to jail and can legally hold you for up to three days just to figure out who you are.

So what’s the big deal about having to show an ID to vote for people that will represent us in Congress or the city Council or the president or bills that may affect our lives here in the community?
